Hue contrast and complementary color contrast |
Under natural conditions, we never see an isolated color. The same color affects us differently, depending on the adjacent colors. |
Hue contrast

The same color appears differently, depending on the adjacent colors. For example, orange will appear yellower against a red background, and redder if the background is yellow. |

Complementary color contrast
|
If the same shade of gray is placed against a blue background it will appear to have an orange tint; against an orange background it will appear to have a blue tint. |
